It was one of those not so chilly evenings of November' 2017, while I was going home for Diwali, when this sweetest gesture happened which comforted me more aptly than a blanket could have done. I had a flight to catch at 7:30 pm and check in was going to be closed by 6:20 pm.
So, yes let me introduce, I live in thane, and as most Mumbaikar's prefer, I took a local from thane to Ghatkopar followed by a metro till Chakala. Office hour rush needs no explanation when you're in Mumbai. Anyhow, I managed to reach Chakala by 5:00 pm. And in utter happiness of reaching early, and the distance to be less than five kilometers, I booked a sharing cab from there to the domestic terminal. Yes, I don't know why but at that hour I did the blunder of booking a sharing cab. Adding to my pain, the traffic got at its peak, and I was standing there thinking of all the possible ways to get to the airport before the check in gate closes. To ruin my mood further, the cab came around 5:45 pm. And to my agony, there were two elegantly dressed ladies who had to be dropped before me. Still hoping to reach the terminal by 6:20, I was pleading the cab driver to drive fast(despite seeing the traffic). One lady was to get down somewhere at Vile Parle. Before getting off the cab, seeing my panicky face, both of them were suggesting me to do a web check-in and how I could miss the flight and what not. Nevertheless, the first lady got off, and it was 6:25 by then. I was almost in tears, thinking of the stupidity that I did. So there is this other lady who has to get off, the driver's navigation showed 10 more mins to reach to the airport, after that lady's drop location. And here, the miracle happens, while the driver turns to go to that lady's dropping location which was still 10 mins farther, the lady asks him to stop and that she would get down there itself and will take another mode from there and without wasting much time, he should drop me asap. While getting down, she just said, "Go safe. Happy Diwali and that you'll be able to celebrate Diwali with your family."
I thankfully reached the airport by 6:45 pm. A lot of whining and begging made them let me in. This might be a gesture for you, but for me it was no less than magic.
P.S : And yes, Mumbai is full of such kind people.
